The Eviva Choir
Eviva is an ambitious women's choir, founded in winter 2002. Although the choir is young, the singers have gained their spurs in, for instance, student choirs and other ensembles. We are women aged 25+ who want singing in a choir to be challenging, exciting and fun.
Eviva's director since autumn 2003 has been Michaela Ijäs. We practice Tuesday evenings at the premises of the male choir Muntra Musikanter in Helsinki. In addition to the regular practices we put aside one weekend each term for intensive practice. Eviva performs both sacred and more popular music. Normally we prepare for concerts in spring and autumn. The major project of autumn 2004, however, was the making of our very own record. We commissioned music from three prominent Finnish women composers: Anna-Mari Kähärä, Mia Makaroff and Säde Rissanen. They were given free hands to choose the texts from the production of two great Finnish poets of old, Eino Leino and Johan Ludvig Runeberg. The CD KaikkiAllt - a blend of young and old, contemporary and traditional, male and female - was released in December 2004. Any questions and enquiries about the choir can be directed to the choir's president Petra Widén (petra.widen(at)kolumbus.fi) or PR officer Nika Zilliakus (henrika.zilliacus(at)helsinki.fi) ![]() Nina Kronlund is an organist, conductor and soprano soloist.
